There are a number of ways you can locate a firm which may have gone out of business.
- Visit their location to see if there is a sign for a new address.
Check with companies near by and with the building landlord to see if
they know the company's whereabouts.
- Send a certified letter to the firm at its last known address.
Request a return receipt which shows where the letter was forwarded and
to whom it was delivered. Ask the Post Office and telephone company for
any forwarding instructions.
- If you paid by check, examine the back of the check and
contact the bank where it was deposited. If you paid by credit card,
notify your card issuer that you are not paying the charges until you
receive your merchandise.
- Check with the New York State Division of Corporations, New
York Department of State, 270 Broadway, New York, NY 10007 and the
County Clerk in which the business was located.
- Contact the US Bankruptcy Court in the district where the
business is located. To help the court locate the information, tell
them the last known name and address of the firm, and your name,
address and phone number. Ask them to provide you with the docket
number for the case and the name of the judge.
