Volunteers needed to handle

special call-in hotline in Spanish

Identity Theft:  Could You Be Next?

BBB invites bilingual professionals who are fluent in both Spanish and English to volunteer as call handlers for this television call-in program. Call handling and training will be done at the BBB's Manhattan offices, located at 30 East 33rd Street, 12th Floor, near Park Avenue South.

We ask that volunteers commit to participating in at least one of the three shifts:

1.      Train at 12 noon,  call answering from 1 PM to 4 PM

2.      Train at 3 PM, call answering from 4 PM to 7 PM

3.      Train at 5 PM, call answering from 6 PM to 9 PM

Volunteers for the third shift are especially needed, as the largest number of calls are typically received in that time period. It may be possible for individuals to volunteer for post-event callback teams, as well, to be scheduled on an as-needed basis, depending on volunteer availability.

Call handlers need to be professionals who are prepared to follow BBB instructions about what can and cannot be said to callers.  Professionals who understand financial literacy and tax issues, legal professionals and law students, or professionals who have experience with identity theft victims would be especially valuable in helping callers recognize potential identity theft situations, although this expertise is not required for volunteers, and we will not be providing financial or legal advice directly through the hotline.

Please contact Heather Layland at 212-358-2829 or e-mail hlayland@newyork.bbb.org to get additional details or to register as a volunteer or a group of volunteers.  We ask that volunteers let us know in advance which shift(s) they are choosing, so that we can assure full staffing of phone banks throughout the call-in day.  Feel free to share this message with others who may be interested in participating.

Thank you!
