NEW YORK – November 22, 2010 – Just in time for holiday giving, Metro New York’s BBB Foundation has launched its new web-based Donor’s Guide to Charity Seal Holders. The BBB Charity Seal is a valued trustmark, signifying that a charity has met all 20 of the BBB Standards for Charity Accountabilty. The Guide features all of the Metro New York BBB Charity Seal Holders, including 219 local charities as of this date that have qualified for and voluntarily joined the BBB Charity Seal program. The Donor’s Guide to Charity Seal Holders is available at:

www.newyork.bbb.org/charityguide

Visitors to the Guide can use its search tools to find information about BBB Seal Holder charities, including links to BBB charity reviews for each, and details such as mission, contact information, and quick links to charity websites.

“The Donor’s Guide is a convenient tool for potential donors, grant makers, volunteers, and others who want to know about charities that have met the BBB’s high standards,” said Claire Rosenzweig, President of the Education and Research Foundation of the Better Business Bureau of Metropolitan New York.

The New York Philanthropic Advisory Service (NYPAS), a program of the Metro New York BBB’s Foundation, reviews over 860 charities in the Metro New York area. Metro New York BBB’s NYPAS charity reviews, including reports on charities that meet all BBB Standards but are not Seal Holders, as well as charities that have not met all BBB Standards, can be viewed at www.newyork.bbb.org.

In addition, the national BBB Wise Giving Alliance publishes reviews on about 1,200 national charities. Local BBBs in other parts of the country also publish thousands of charity reviews. All BBB charity reports are available through www.bbb.org.
