Daniel Romero, a senior at Division Avenue High School, is the 2013 recipient of the Virginia (Ginny) Gerardi Memorial Scholarship presented by the Better Business Bureau of Metropolitan New York. The $500 award was presented on Tuesday, June 4, 2013 during Senior Awards Night at Levittown Public Schools Division Avenue High School. Kathleen Piereth-Heenan, Executive Director of the Long Island Better Business Bureau and Ms. Gerardi’s daughters, Joyce Reardon and Angela Schrotz, presented the award.
Daniel was selected to receive the scholarship through an essay submission. All applicants were graduating students in good standing who have shown themselves to be honorable and who have registered to attend college/university with the goal of pursuing a career in business.
“The Virginia “Ginny” Gerardi Memorial Scholarship is dedicated to the memory of our dear colleague who devoted her career to upholding the BBB’s Standards for Trust and felt strongly about the importance of instilling a sense of integrity, honesty and accountability in our next generation,” said Claire Rosenzweig, President and CEO of the Better Business Bureau of Metropolitan New York. “We are proud to present this award to a student whose career path and interests clearly embody the essence of the woman in whose name it is bestowed.”
Daniel played football and lacrosse during his four years at Division Avenue High School, demonstrating his leadership abilities as captain of the lacrosse team in his senior year. He has made a difference in his community by serving as a volunteer with the PAL lacrosse program, assisting and teaching children the fundamentals of the game. In addition, during the winter months, Daniel offers his shoveling services to senior citizens for free.
Daniel will be graduating this month and plans to attend Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, Connecticut in the fall where he will major in Marketing.
